Since its reopening in 2015, works of modern and contemporary art have set strong accents in the Cathedral Museum's exhibition and form a focal point of the special exhibition program. The establishment of the Hall Art Foundation in 2007 with its German location in Schloss Derneburg has resulted in close proximity to one of the world's largest collections of modern art and thus the opportunity to bring works by prominent artists from this collection to Hildesheim.
In the context of the medieval artifacts with World Heritage status, the exhibition shows artistic positions that relate to Christian beliefs and pictorial traditions as well as to the church as an institution. The spectrum ranges from Joseph Beuys to Niki de Saint Phalle, Lucio Fontana and Andy Warhol to the British artist couple Gilbert & George. New, sometimes critical perspectives will thus be on display in the museum to stimulate further discussion.
Our special thanks go to Andrew and Christine Hall and the entire team at the Hall Art Foundation Schloss Derneburg for their generous support!
